FRANCHISEE SCOTT RINTOUL RUNS THE OLYMPIC TORCH
PRESS RELEASE
February 11, 2010
ATLANTA – Flip Flop Shops' very own Scott Rintoul (Size 8) can add “Olympic torchbearer” to his list of accomplishments. Owner of the Flip Flop Shops franchise in Vancouver, Rintoul carried the Olympic Flame on February 10 as part of the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay leading up to the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.
Rintoul was randomly selected to be one of an estimated 12,000 torchbearers to carry the Olympic flame on its 45,000-kilometer, 106-day trek across Canada in preparation for the Olympic Games in Vancouver. He proudly carried the torch on a 300-meter stretch in West Vancouver before a large crowd of Olympic enthusiasts, before passing the flame to former Olympic sprinter and silver medalist Frankie Fredericks.
“I am honored and privileged to have been selected as an official torchbearer for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay,” Rintoul said, who also co-hosts the BMac and Rintoul show on Team 1040 sports radio in Vancouver. “Running with the Olympic Flame provided me an exceptional opportunity to represent my family and fans, as well as the Flip Flop Shops brand and most importantly…my country.”
When the torch relay concluded on February 12 at the Opening Ceremony of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, the torch had journeyed across the most eastern, western and northern points of Canada. The flame was carried by foot and on a variety of modes of transportation, including quintessentially Canadian methods such as canoes, skis and snowmobiles.
“Thousands of proud people carried the Olympic Spirit in the form of the torch across Canada,” said Brian Curin (Size 10), the President of Flip Flop Shops and a Vancouver resident himself. “We're totally stoked that Scott was one of those torchbearers and did it as a member of the Flip Flop Shops team.”
