Prior to joining Flip Flop Shops as Canadian Master Franchisee Doug started his business career at Shell Canada. At very young age he joined the family business and a long line of Shell dealers that included his grandfather and father. After amazing growth and numerous company awards for customer service Doug started looking for a new challenge. The consumer winemaking industry was taking off in Canada and Doug opened the first Wine Kitz franchise in greater Vancouver. A year later he acquired the master franchise for British Columbia. After developing the region with multiple stores he sold it back to the parent company and it was on to the corporate world. The next 10 years included executive positions at EB Games and Lids where Doug was involved in the explosive growth of these brands across Canada.

In 2011 Flip Flop Shops provided the chance to "free his toes". It was too good an opportunity to pass up as Doug has lived the flip-flop lifestyle forever. From waterskiing and wakeboarding the crystal clear waters of the Okanagan lakes to traveling the world of sunny exotic destinations, it is in his blood. In fact, he was ahead of his time when he married his beautiful wife Debbie 20 years ago on the Caribbean island of St. Thomas wearing shorts and flip flops! His love of the water is only slightly ahead of his love of the frozen kind. When not breaking the glass calm waters in the summer Doug and his family can be found carving up Whistler in the winter.

"Flip Flop Shops has exploded throughout the United States, and I’m looking to bring this same energy to Canada," said Kingston, size 11. "This niche concept works. Plus, the demand for flip flops and sandals never dies, no matter what time of the year. I’m stoked to join the Flip Flop Shops family and look forward to growing the brand from coast to coast."
